STREETS OF STEEL: The SideScrollin' Beat'em Up Boardgame

Created by Wild Power Games

A generation ago, Steel City was a shining beacon of cooperation, peace and prosperity. Disaster struck, and now, Steel City is a mere shadow of its former glory. Tired and fed up, a few brave Steel City heroes have banded together to stem the tide of carnage. YOU are one of those heroes. YOU will clean up these STREETS OF STEEL.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

HOME STRETCH + ORGANIZER STRETCH GOAL + TALE OF 2 JOES + 1986!
almost 6 years ago – Thu, Jun 07, 2018 at 12:04:54 AM

OH HELLOOO

Boy, it is hard to keep up with you all!

We go to sleep, and when we wake up we have rushed past stretch goals.

We go to work… more stretch goals!

We get home from work… more stretch goals!

For the next few hours, we will be prepping the page for it’s final day’s visitors… and it’s resting state. (Once the campaign ends, creators cannot alter the page really).
But before we do that, lets chat.
We were going to “sell” you all on the sweetness of unique backs for the Boss Decks… but we already hit that goal!

CUSTOM ORGANIZER TRAY

Next up, at 80K is an expensive to manufacture, but awesome to include, custom organizer insert (vacuum tray as it is known in to those in the secret inner circles). Ours will need to be awesome no matter what version of the game you own. It will fit sleeved cards (tested with Dragon Sleeve "clears" because a) that is Ryan’s favorite for Magic the Gathering and b) players will want clear so they can see the Hazard value on the back of the Behavior Deck). Minis and Standees will fit nicely and be protected.

1986

Just for fun, here are some shots of some minis painted by @Malev_Minis on Instagram.

Process shots (what other game has minis with a little bonus butt-crack?!)

Yes, the 3d printed prototype Boss cane broke :( and yes, that is Ryan's high school yearbook from the 80s.

A TALE OF 2 JOES

A few backers have asked about the “two Joes”.

Game-wise, they play really differently, as you will see. Much more “wild” dice rolling and capabilities on Berserker Joe. Higher chance to miss… but potential to deal more damage.

Art-wise, we hoped that the original Star Trek joke would come across in the dashboard art, so we made the only difference a goatee. Now we get the feeling it is not, so we are being more explicit with the art. (The reference to Star Trek, for what it is worth, is that there was an alternate dimension “evil” crew. The only real difference aesthetically for Spock was that he had a goatee). Anyway, now Berserker Joe has a little more Hacksaw Jim Duggan in his DNA.)

That is all for tonight.

We will be adding to the page, showing off more characters, and watching closely all day tomorrow so feel free to chat with us in the Comments section on the main page.

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! - EVENT CARDS!
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Jun 05, 2018 at 11:02:49 PM

Hi there

Less than 48 hours to go! Quick message for you.

We are excited to unveil a new Stretch Goal. If we hit $68k (and we hope we will) it enables us to fund manufacturing of Event Cards for every copy of the game! Multiple Event Cards will be included in LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 2, and players will randomly choose 2 to shuffle into the Behavior Deck in any given game. Want a higher difficulty? Add more events!

Event cards look the same as Behavior cards on the back (so as to remain disguised) but the fronts show location-specific events that trigger upon drawing them. PRETTY SWEET.

Check some out:

That is all the news that is fit to print for tonight. Speak with you all soon!

DEAD HERO STRETCH GOAL + HOVERBOARDS + BADDIE AND BOSS COMPARED!
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Jun 05, 2018 at 04:30:18 PM

Hi everyone! Not much time left on this rollercoaster that we call Kickstarter!

STRETCH GOAL'N

Boom. Another one behind us! RIP to those generic Dead Hero boards. Say hello to customized graves for the poor souls that lost their lives on the Streets of Steel City.

Next up... you asked for it and you got it. If we hit the next goat at just a 3k jump, we have unique street art for the Street Tiles.

KICKSTARTER LIVESTREAM

If you did not get a chance to view the last Kickstarter Live, here is the PROTOTYPE HOVERBOARD card that we made on the stream: If you *did* join us, you probably noticed we have worked on it a little more. We thought that this looked more “prototypey”. Look at that cute little frayed, sparking wire on the back thruster. Heh.

 BADDIES COMPARED

Next, we will take a moment to show you some of the baddies that you will see in Streets Of Steel. We will probably put a few more updates out there in the following days to help fill in some blanks as well.

Here we have the Threat 3 Baddies from the LEVEL 1 box, as well as its counterpart from LEVEL 2. Players may swap out one Baddie, Hero or Boss for another across the boxes to vary gameplay. For Baddies, matching the Threat Level is how we recommend players mix and match (but hey, it is a board game… you can do what you like! No computer to force you into anything.)

On the top is the Killgaroo and just two of their Behavior Cards. Below the Killgaroo is the Kommandroid, Kimmitzar’s personal bodyguard, and two Behavior Cards. On the Dashboard, the two appear similar in some ways, but in Streets of Steel, it is the Behavior Deck that shows the mechanics and personality of each character type.

Ninja Killgaroos are powerful in both attack and defense. Try not to end your turn on a space with one or you may suffer a punishing Master Kick.

The golden Kommandroids are hard to put down as well, and their beam weapons are dangerous. Players should be aware of how they position themselves at the end of their turn if the Kommandroids are around, as they can use their arm cannons to blast though whole rows. They can also sacrifice themselves, potentially causing big damage!

BOSSES COMPARED

Next, let us take a peek at the Bosses in Level 1 and Level 2. As with the Baddies, the mechanics of each Boss are found primarily in the Boss' Behavior Deck.

Boss Mutie's grotesque form allows him to hit hard, moving heroes and throwing hunks of city wreckage.

Kimmi's deck has her commanding her minions in advanced maneuvers, setting them up to make trouble for the Heroes.

Backers may be interested in knowing that, based on comments right here on Kickstarter, we are investigating alternate versions of the Boss' stats that will appear on the flip of their dashboards. This will create new versions for players to fight against, adding even more variety to each game session.

More character details to come, both Heroes and Baddies.
Thank you everyone! Final days are upon us.

Stretch Goal Defeated! + Add Ons + Retail Kits + Dead Hero Art + Eternity Gauntlet +More!
almost 6 years ago – Thu, May 31, 2018 at 10:27:34 PM

Hey Hey! Big update here coming your way...

ADD ONS

We wanted to show you some of the fun add-ons that we have worked out. Real metal Streets of Steel quarters, more dice, Slurpos, and more on the way too! Below is a preview of some add-ons, and the entire, current list is posted on the main page. We are also opening a VOTE for the next enamel pin design! Please vote by clicking HERE. Backers can add funds to their pledge now, and choose items in the BackerKit, OR wait and just shop when we launch the BackerKit. Either way works! And of course, you can choose to add multiples of all add ons (for example, if you want dice sets for all 4 players, or want to plaster your town with pixel punches, etc).

Stickers are 3 inchers. Pins are classic 1 inchers. Dice are 16mm, as in the main game. Quarters are about 1 inch... like a real quarter :)

STRETCH GOALS

We are truckin' along here at SOS central, and yes, we have toppled another Stretch Goal. Now, all versions of the game will have nice, upgraded, chipboard streets and all backers will receive the following Kickstarter Exclusive, Foil, Item cards (apologies in advance for missing artwork, but the goals are what funds the art):

Passing a Stretch Goal means another one on deck. We have a good feeling about the campaign and know that we have many more Stretch Goals to hit in the remaining days of the campaign. These will include things like component upgrades and more gameplay options.

This next one up is to finally be able to fund the creation of unique Dead Hero art, and at a smaller funding jump of $3k (and we are already well on our way). When a Hero dies, players flip their dash and place the Hero (and a new Quarter if you have one) on it as a reminder. Currently there is a single drawing, but we have joke epitaphs, gravestones and memorial items that we want per hero dashboard. Hitting this goal will allow the Dead Hero artist to get to creating. Beyond that is another small funding jump of $3k to fill all street tiles with unique art!

LIVESTREAM

We streamed our first Kickstarter Live while I (Ryan) painted the art for the Eternity Gauntlet. There were some technical issues since not many people stream themselves making art on KSL, but we believe we have those sorted now. Kickstarter enabled a new beta feature for us to stream our desktop. We will be streaming more coming up, starting tomorrow. Tune in at 11am EST for more art-making. Ryan may be pixel-painting, or may be sculpting minis.
After finishing the stream, I decided to remove the infinity icon that was there... 'cause, y'know. Instead I chose the Ouroboros icon. It is, after all, the ETERNITY GAUNTLET.

RETAIL KITS

We have had many stores requesting kits for their shops. Here is the basic info for you:
Please pledge at the $1.00 Reward Tier. Once we fund, the BackerKit will be open, and there will be a retailer kit there. Streets Of Steel will be available in cases of 8 and wholesaled at 50% of the Kickstarter prices. A single case will incur shipping costs, but 2+ gains free shipping.

HERO, BADDIE & BOSS DETAILS

It occurs to us that many of you have not had a chance to see the LEVEL 2 characters up close and personal, rules and all. We will fix that soon, and post pics for you! Apologies for that. They are real fun and we know you will love them.

CORRESPONDENCE

Finally, there is a lot to do over here at the lair of Wild Power, making art and such... not to mention day jobs! Responses may be a tad slower than they have been up until now. The hope is to respond to everything at least once in the AM and once in the PM.

If you've got any questions, please feel free to Direct Message us, or post it in the comments section. As we mentioned before, we value your voice, and we're in this together.

UNLOCKED KICKSTARTER EXCLUSIVE HERO! + Next Stretch Goal!
almost 6 years ago – Wed, May 23, 2018 at 10:05:32 PM

You dudes ready for a little more rock and roll? We just unlocked a Kickstarters Exclusive Hero, and we're onto a new stretch goal. Let's get this show on the road!

All of your help and support has unlocked Telekinetikid, our Kickstarter exclusive hero! This mysterious telekinetic teen is joining our fight on the streets of Steel City. He won't be available in the retail version of our game, so this freaky, floating teenager is yours and yours alone. Good luck out there!

ANOTHER STRETCH GOAL UPDATE!

Now that Telekinetikid has been unlocked, we're onto to unlocking more goodies. Our next goal is a split between 3 Kickstarter Exclusives and a nice upgrade to copies of Streets of Steel. First, we will be upgrading the street tiles to heavy chipboard! And second, 3 new FOIL item cards, for backers only!

Artwork will commence on Friday
Artwork will commence on Friday

Oh hey, the Eternity Gauntlet is going to be drawn before your very eyes, if you tune in to our Kickstarter Live broadcast on Friday around 11am EST.

If you've got any questions, please direct those to our messages or post it in the comments section. We value your voice, and we're in this together.

Keep these streets clean,
